Any fans of 999 or Zero Escape here? Today I just found out that the creator is coming out with a third and final installment at the end of this year! It's called Zero Time Dilemma.
If you don't know about this series, it was huge because development on this series was canceled halfway through because the game didn't do to well because of it's gore and violence factor in Japan, but the creator finally came through years later and we have the conclusion!

This game is going to be different than the others in that rather than being more visual novel based, it's more inspired by the Telltale game series! I'm so excited! Here are the contestants in the game:

Dude! Arc! Where have you been?! There's been a ton of news about this game for a long time now!
Like the release date being 28th June in North America and Europe!
And I believe that they may get more watches for later, although personally I prefer the last two games watches compared to the new one.
Seriously, Arc. We gotta get you up to speed.

I'm so agitated that I missed out on this. I hardcore followed the series until I thought it was canceled. I stopped keeping up to date about it right about when the new game was announced.
Do you know how the creator convinced them to fund the new project? Last I heard the whole thing was scrapped.

999 was a visual novel I was considering playing. Worth it I assume?

Oh definitely. 999 and Ghost Trick are two story driven puzzle games I'd recommend getting and playing. It has a great mystery story with multiple paths, a bit of blood and gore and a lot of bad endings. It's really good. And if you find yourself liking the game, you can always try the sequel Virtue's Last Reward.
@Arc
I believe it was mentioned somewhere that it was due to all the fan support for the two games since people were pretty vocal about there being another games (especially after how VLR leaves us hanging).
I got into the series last summer so image my surprise a few months later when they announce a third game. I really loved 999 and while VLR left me a bit unsatisfied, it was still a pretty good sequel even though 999 could've stood on it's own.

I love it where fans can really make a difference. It makes me really appriciate the publisher Spike Chunsoft to go through making a sequel knowing full well that they might not turn a huge profit. It's good to know some publishers listen to their fans unlike others *cough* EA *cough cough*

A problem that I have is that it won't be a proper visual novel like the previous games.
There's definitely going to be puzzles and choices like before but the cinema experience while kinda nice, also takes away the visual novel experience that the previous games gave us. But I guess I should wait to get the game before I make a proper call on that. Still, being told that people don't like reading is a little insulting for those that do.

Another thing that irks me is the random factor in making these choices. If RNGesus doesn't like you, you might have trouble getting certain endings for the game, since obviously you're going to want to go for the best choices if you want to see the true ending.
At any rate, still excited for this final chapter in the Zero Escape series.

very interesting article. If anything, that makes me even more excited about the game! I wouldn't be too worried about the random element. Kotaro Uchikoshi only stated that events are randomized. I don't think that your personal decisions have a random chance of success, but I don't really know how it works. I trust that he isn't going to just cheat us out of good endings, though. It's going to be where if we fail, its going to be on part of the player.
I know exactly what Kotaro is talking about when he says that people don't like reading. People enjoy playing games to be interactive. Visual novels have always been a niche market. I think what Kotaro meant when he said people don't like reading is that you have to look at the reality; if a player encounters a long wall of text he or she is no longer playing a game, but reading. I know for a fact a lot of gamers are turned off by this and will stop playing the game because of it. I think moving towards a more dynamic model like the Telltale game series is a great move. Those games have huge success. It's probably a big reason that Kotaro Uchikoshi got a greenlight for the last project.
I do love though how he is deciding to bring back the gore and violence from the first game that made the game almost die completely in Japan. He doesn't give a shit if it's recieved poorly in Japan anymore. He wants to make the game in the way he thinks it should be, even at the cost of some sales. I can really respect that.
