understanding the third Evangelion rebuild movie

I just finished watching the third Evangelion rebuild movie. In my own opinion I kind of find it to be the weakest installment so far. I didn't really understand much at all about what went on in the movie. About the only thing that I understood was that when Shinji caused the third impact or rather a partial third impact he basically killed all the people he knew and loved in the city. Was anybody else able to understand or follow more of what went on in the movie?

I don't remember having too much of a problem, it used a lot of the same concepts from the original series, but just had them play out in a different way.

When I think about it that way some of it does seem to fall into place a little more (if you include the End Of Evangelion movie in what you said) but there are still many confusing things...also like in the End Of Evangelion movie lol. They seemed to raise like 15 questions and only slightly answered 2 (not literally). It was never really answered why or how there was a 14 year timeskip and neither Shinji nor Asuka aged (though only 2 characters, that were previously shown, really seemed to show any aging anyway), what happened to Rei (unless it was shown at the end of the 2nd movie and I just forgot), or even what was going on that Kawru knew that something was wrong with the lances (or more specifically what/who/why did it matter/general specifics) and things like that.
