Strength/Power vs Agile/Speed

j_oxford
I thought this would be worthy of a Random Chatter thread, so let me present the question. If you could personally train your physical body to fit into a Strength or Agile category what would you choose? Strong, but losing flexibility? Agile ,but losing power? What are y'all's thoughts?

This is an awesome forum, so no worries. Originally, I would have said strength, because of my long-standing preference of tank/ close-combat MMORPG characters. These days, I think I would prefer agility. I'm a novice tennis player, so it would definitely come in handy. Also, when I think about a medieval age battlefield scenario, it would pay to be quick and precise with your blows, as well as being able to dodge/ out maneuver your enemy. (I just had LARP on my mind.)

It does kind of depend. In general, I'd choose speed. Powerhouses would lose since there's literally no way to compensate for speed. But if you're wickedly fast, there are ways you can compensate for power. Like, using a sword to cause damage or if there's too much of a difference, a gun or bombs. At least on typical scales. If you go too far up the scale though... A supersonic jet has no hope against something that can destroy mountains.

Well, whenever I play Dark Souls I always make my guy a tank, so i guess I'd want strength and power.

I think it depends on a third category no one is talking about... Stamina/endurance. Before taking this into acount of course I would go with speed and agility... Because float like a butterfly, stigma like a bee. You can't touch what your eyes can't see. I mean for all the power Vegeta showed, he could not touch Freeza on Namek. Likewise Trunks got a huge power boost as an Ultra Super Saiyajin or SSJ 1.5, but was too slow to hit Perfect Cell... That being said, if my top speed is high but I can not maintain it, all a power guy has to do is hunker down and wait me out. If the pepper damage doesn't bring his HP to 0, now I am too tired to move and he has all his power left. That stamina is very important stat to consider. Can I go at this high speed and dart around like a bee indefinitely, or at least have the same stamina as the heavy hitter, or do I have less? That being said the power guy must consider stamina as well. I know this is not anime and may be before the time of many users (including me) but this is how Muhammad Ali defeated George Foreman, he tired the big guy out, and peppered him with weaker attacks than George could muster, and from sheer exhaustion the tower of flesh was toppled

Hmmmmm....this is a tough one. I think I would choose agile/speed.

Stamina and Endurance is a good option, but I think I was aiming towards weight classes. I personally would choose Agile/Speed, however my build is more oriented towards Strength/Power. I think the ability to quickly escape and ambush would be valuable. Maybe there will be hope for me someday? :P

Stamina/endurance is fundamental, for this to keep it relevant. You mentioned this being a comparison of physical weight class. But then speak of a strategy and tactics? I'd say to find the balance of these 6 attributes that works best for your nature and skill set. By the way J, kudos on the bomb thread!

I'll say speed and agility. The formula for kinetic energy is Ke = 1/2m * v^2. A math story short, it means for kinetic energy half of your weight or muscle mass counts, but your speed is counted multiple times. Ke = 1/2 * 2kg * 2^2 Ke = 4 Now let's double the mass Ke = 1/2 * 4kg * 2^2 Ke = 8 Twice as much kinetic energy. But if we move twice as fast via Flash Step, Acceleration or your technique of choice... Ke = 1/2 * 2kg * 4^2 Ke = 16 By moving faster you quadruple your attack power. You'll even hit twice as hard as a guy who's two times heavier than you. Speed is Power.
