Kira Basically Did Nothing Wrong

Isn't there 50 shades though ,Jinsei? In all seriousness, I believe that many of us would probably go down that path if given the opportunity. Killing someone though, no matter the person, still is killing. Now there are different adaptations, say protecting yourself or someone else; morally these are acceptable. Murdering a bad person when they are no longer a threat isn't morally good. Personally I don't see death as a correct punishment for wicked people, it seems like an easy way out. Besides, a life sentence is only about 20 years, so it's not for life. The moment that Light killed a prisoner, he lost his humanity. How does that make him any different than people that he is killing? Should he kill himself for touching the darkest parts of our society?

I think the fact that it's still killing doesn't matter so much as I see Kira as someone who took it upon himself to go to that dark place for the sake of lessening the debauchery. The fact that he was lustful about his killing would be inconsequential had he decided to not kill innocent people. I think he had to get his hands dirty to take out the trash. I don't remember exactly what were the types of people he condemned but I support his actions in the case of murderers and corporate scrooges.

If I'm correct, he only killed criminals with no remorse, were likely to kill again, and only when they killed for evil reasons.

You can agree with his actions, but it doesn't make it justifiable. There was a reason why the police were after him. Its not his call to kill, but even taking out corporations only feeds another corporation. It was never his place to be a judge, especially when he was a killer himself.

That is still not his place to decide, especially as a teenager.

He was obviously a smart teenager though, seemed pretty worldly. And the police are obligated to pursue murderers which is what he of course was. But he was given a unique opportunity that shouldn't be bound by municipalities and jurisdiction (unless you're talking the jurisdiction of God/consciousness) He became a killer to kill killers, I don't think he discovered he had a joy for it until later on.

He still stopped all the world's wars and crime. But you are right, a killer of killers is still a killer. It wasn't his place to decide who should live or die, but you can't deny he did more good then evil. Even if he became a murderer in the end.

You also have to wonder if the ends justify the means. By killing criminals he stopped nearly all war and crime which would mean less deaths worldwide.

Depends on the type of ethics one has
jinsei
I feel there is a difference between a person who takes a life lightly as a means to an end vs. the person who does so when no other option is practical and available. If someone is going to kill or injure another that wants nothing to do with them and the two sides can't come to terms, they may indeed have to be taken out. But the decision wouldn't be made lightly. There have been people in history who've taken many lives. What separates tyrants from heroes and someone just doing what they had to, is the decision always weighs more on the hero. That's why the just are always discomforted if they feel that taking a life feels too easy or simple. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
