Anyone else read? As a hobby? I do, personally.. (Otherwise I probably wouldn't have made this thread) and I was just wondering.. :3 I suppose I read a fairly limited array of genres as I currently cannot stand crime books- but I still own a fair few books and hey, its something to ask.. :) (Please don't say manga, please don't say manga.. xD)

Accrual books that I have read/am reading I have a few I need to finish up like Dante's inferno and I am legend (that is nothing like the movie) I'd like to find time to read but I usally find my self to busy or doing other things with my free time (drawing playing basketball or video games) but once I go back to school and have less time for games I will probably start reading again well on the train to school and before I go to sleep.

I actually hadn't done much reading for a while, but earlier this year I re-discovered the joy of books and have been reading a lot since. XD I mostly read non-fiction, but a little bit of fiction, too. Currently I'm reading Leon Trotsky's autobiography.

I still read a lot. Earlier in the year, was on a Star Wars Universe kick, so was reading every book written for it, had gotten to Attack of the Clones( I think that was around 17 or 18 on the chronology of books) and got stuck, to boring.
Might just skip it and go to the next book chronology wise, or might just start something new.
I normally stick with Fantasy/Scifi/Historical Fiction type.

I'm a biiiig reader. ^_^
Started learning English as a small child from the Los Angeles Times, and then moved on to cute non-fiction things about butterflies, dragons, and other components of ecosystems.
Then I got bored of regurgitating facts and opted for Harry Potter when I was six. After that, I moved on to Eragon and Lord of the Rings in fourth grade, then Narnia in fifth grade.
That's when I became a really good writer. ^_^
I was so full of ideas I wanted to share with the world. You know that saying about reading good books and writing good stories...
Now I still stick to sci-fi, fantasy, and encyclopedias. I used to really HATE history books, I recall, if they didn't have copious amounts of lawlessness. Any book with a moral was pure crap to me. It pissed me off to no end that good ideas were ruined by corny "messages" that I had to "look for" in order to prove to schoolteachers that I could, in fact, function.
I totally can do all of that, but I don't feel like doing so. I just like books with a great plot and a big enough universe. Anything that inspires me to make fanfiction is good enough for me! ^_^
I think my all-time favorites include things by Horowitz, War of the Worlds, The Phantom Tollbooth, and the Ender's Game series.

YES. Very much so. I love to read. Up until a few years ago, reading almost constantly was my defining trait. I like many classics, but I'm not afraid to admit that some are simply overrated. My favourite author is Pratchett, my favourite genres are deconstructed sci-fi and de/reconstructed fantasy. I like some stuff that could be considered smut or romance depending on how you look at it. I enjoy mysteries, especially mysteries involving a normal chef or cook who gets roped into all sorts of mysteries and often falls in love with a member of the local constabulary (which always surprises me at how such a specific genre can have so many series in it). I love urban fantasy (The Dresden Files, Greywalker, and October Daye are some of my favourite series out of all books, not just the genre); I've tried reading the Sookie Stackhouse series (I like the TV series), but haven't been able to access the first book, entirely for lack of trying. When I was a kid, more dull than I am now, I actually read a dictionary for fun, and tried but failed to read an encyclopedia. I took a job as a textbook editor for my university because they were literally paying me to do something I already did for free (especially when I got to edit translated Russian and French literature, and the works of Dante Aligheri). Lately, I've been getting into retro-Victorian books, the kind of books that are designed to read like something from the time of the Bronte sisters, Oscar Wilde, before, or between. I also unironically like some books that are meant for younger readers, because they were written with a skill appreciable by older readers (such as Garth Nix's Keys to the Kingdom and in a different way Seventh Tower series), or when a series "grew up" for their readers, and it was worthwhile to go back and read the less linguistically and philosophically complex earlier books (like Harry Potter).
...Oh, dear. Just look at the word count. I really must stop before it passes 2000 characters... agai
