Bloodborne is easier and harder than the Souls games. Blocking sucks and is a bad idea, but your dodge is MUCH faster and easier to control. If you're having trouble, use the beckoning bell (though it costs insight, and can also beckon PvP enemies after the first helpful ally), or spend some time upgrading your gear. Makes a huge difference.
