Social Media...Expalin these to me please

Ok guys,I need some help. I don't use social media and when I do it's not often. Well with the exception of this site. I don't have/use Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest ect. and I don't intend to for the most part. However, I noticed that there are some people here that use those and are not on this site often. So I was thinkin of using either Snapchat or Instagram. Which one is better for talkin for people? Snapchat seems like it's more about chatting (thus the name) and instagram sounds like it's more about posting stuff than messaging. Any care on shedding some light on this stuff for me? I'm gonna post this on my page too.

I don't normally go on social medias but yes, Snapchat is more of chatting and instagram is more of posting like images. You should use both if you know people who uses one but not the other.

I see. After reading up on Snapchat. I see that the chats disappear and what not, so that tells me that there are opportunities for pervy abuse. So does it have a bad rep of that? It doesn't seem like it. If not I'll use it.

I think it varies on an individual's experience. I personally don't look at the ratings/reputation but try things myself and determine if I dislike it or not. I've seen Snapchat mentioned a lot so I don't think it's bad but just be sure to be careful of who you interact with.
