Recently a really good friend of mine who's been basically my best-friend since high-school has become addicted to cocaine; i remember he use to be just your average pot smoker; then him and a few other friends wen't to a music festival, it started out innocently; a few shrooms- with a little LSD apparently, but afterwards he started doing them more and more; until the drugs started to consume him, we work at the same place and when he came in to work last week, he looked just pale and skinny, it was unsettling to see somebody whom i always got pizza with and went to the gym as his buddy, anyway; at work i asked hom how he was, he told me he was cool and that he started doing cocaine, i just looked at him and told him to stop; he later then told me that he knew, he hangs around rather wealthy people, people who have the money to afford it as if it was nothing, he comes from a rather straight and wealthy family too, unlike me, but i seen what that shit does to people; i watched my uncle go through it; so i'll be damned if i'll sit by and act like it was good to begin with, This week he didn't show up for work for 2 days on tuesday and wednesday; i told our supervisor that he sent me to tell him he's sick and won't be at work for a 4 days; our supervisor said okay, but yesterday i went to his apartment and he basically has no food, and barely any money for rent, he was just lying there in his bed, motionless i thought he was dead but he did have a pulse and awoke immediately after i called his name, He asked me how i got in and i told him, he said he was sorry for missing work and other shit, but after talking to him for abit and ordering a pizza, i drove him to get him some cheap groceries, and gave him about 200$ for his rent, all together was about 350$ out of my pocket, i told him to come to work tomorrow and give me his coke, i didn't bother to lecture him or take the stuff away from him, but i did tell him about what it did to my uncle and a few past friends, he seemed to understand, but i know that an addict won't quit if you tell him; it takess that addict to realize he has a problem and then him dealing with it, the most i can do i voice my concern. but i think i did all i can do.
i'd like to know what you guys think. Any of you had similar experiences?

It depends on how bad his addiction is. If he tries to get clean or spends the money you gave him on more drugs. If it is that bad than giving him cash is a bad idea, but this is a good test to see if he tries to help himself. Unfortunately there is only so much you can do. You can help him if he wants to help himself but otherwise it won't do any good. Try to get him into different social situations and away from the people getting him drugs. Just be there as a friend if he needs you. Ultimately though, it's up to him.

Based on your discription pretty much his fault for starting cocaine or any drug related. It is nice of you to care for your friend, other will just let them rot to death. I saw many people are like that. What you can do is to help him but don't give him financially because he will use it for more drug abuse. Let him try something that replace it. Even though is not good for another drug, he need to consume as little as possible. Don't tell him to quit immediately let him know he can only take little by little that way he won't crave for more. Give him some nicotine gum or use something not too strong.

He needs support. You should force him to go to Narcotics Anonymous as abuse of hallicinogens are very risky. I know people who don't abuse them, but then I know people who use them and stuff like MDMA. If you care about him, you need to enable him to get clean, as best you can.

As cruel as it sounds you should not be giving them any money as it is easy for them to spend on drugs and you will be enabling them. Unless you can send it via bank transfer to the landlord direct I would not give them any cash helping them by buying food is fine but ultimately they will probably need some kind of professional help to stop using.
You should find them information for support groups nearby etc.
