I learned by a lot of experimentation and youtube. There are plenty of lessons on how you play particular songs. The rest came from jamming along to my favorite songs. And you just get better as you go. I got a cheap multi-effects pedal. The ability to experiment with different sounds helps as well. The same 2 or 3 note diddy sounds so different when you use different effects or filters and keeps things interesting. That only applies if you have a guitar that can plug into an amp or effects pedal.

@michaelw remember to get a real tone cable with it too :P
@xypho to each their own i guess, but think on it, it helped me learn a majority of the songs that i know now

as I've mentioned, its for most consoles, PC, Mac, xbox 360, xbox one, ps3, ps4, not just ps4, so if i were you, i would just buy a used xbox 360 or ps3 or something, all of them are the same game, (note that rocksmith 2014 is a newer version of rocksmith), and again, i highly recommend the PC version because you can get a bunch of custom songs on it

A cable that has an instrument plug on one end and a usb connection for your game console/PC on the other.
