Devil May Cry 2 was the best in the series. It deserves respect. It even crossed over with Shin Megami Nocturne!

@gabriel_true i agree its not as bad as people make it out to be i remember playing it with my dad when i was kid and it became my favourite out of all 3 games

DMC2 had cool designs I wish stayed in the series. For instance, I loved being able to run up walls and backflip onto a flying opponent. - Trickster has a couple features similar to this, but it does not feel the same. - Arius was a cool character design whom would have been nice to have seen be used similar to Wesker from Resident Evil. Though of course we know that is not how he ended up. - Low-key he reminds me of a skinnier version of Heihachi Mishima.
