So have any of you tried learning the language? How have your experiences been so far?

Last time i took an online JLPT placement test, they placed me in the N3/N2 range. My progress is going well, but grammar is tough for me.

Haven't really put much effort into learning japanese, I taught myself hiragana and I've been just slowly picking up stuff from anime. One of my friends from home's parents are from Japan so I always just talk to her whenever I learn something new and it's always fun haha

I took three years of Japanese classes at my college, one semester while actually in Japan, until I ran out of classes to take. I didn't find learning too hard, but now that it's been a couple years, I'm rusty. Listening and reading I can do okay with, but speaking or writing skills have become minimal. It definitely helps to have other people around to practice with.

I'm trying to find motivation, I'm not exercising every day as I should be and I feel bad about it. I've always being good with languages before but japanese is the first to introduce a new alphabet for me, so it's quite challenging. Thankfully, japanese seem to like foreign languages so there's katakana everywhere and katakana are quite easy.

The spoken part isn't that hard especially if you watch movies and shows in Japanese constantly, you start to recognize words and sayings that you've been practicing. Only slightly more difficult is the written part. The concepts of Hiragana and Katakana are easy enough to understand but the hurdle is that it's a lot different than the roman alphabet that I'm used to. But from my experience, if you work hard at it, it's actually a pretty easy language to learn.
