Family Politics and "The Worst Generation"

darkhorse
I am curious as to your family's politics. Who rules the family? Or is it in an active state of chaos? Who has influence? And as for us younger folk, "The Worst Generation", how do we sow the seeds of our future influence? My family is a matriarchy where my grandmother is in charge, but increasingly my older brother has surpassed my uncles for dominance, and my younger brother and I have a coalition to take down my brother a notch. We have realized that we'll have to live with each other in the upcoming decades, so we better established a democratic state. Besides, I have always known my older brother to be a tyrant King, and my younger siblings have placed their trust in me to rule the family. We are all equals, but it is my job to make sure my reckless brother does not bring shame or punishment to our family. I'm the only one to stop him.

My father and I run the politics. My father since he comes from a patriarchal background and me because I have the highest education out of everyone in the family. Even extended family defer to me. But since I am usually quiet and don't care much for my extended family politics, it is usually my dad or aunt when dealing with extended family.

My siblings and mother are excluded from her family politics (since I didn't grow up with them). But even my siblings acknowledge I am the most ambitious and outgoing of my siblings. I have instilled knowledge and respect in my sister, so she sees me as the real "father figure". My older brother is a tyrant as mentioned. After my uncles get older, my brother and I will clash over dominance. However, I have my sister and younger brother's support. I want to establish a "council" of sorts where all my siblings, even my older brother, are included in meetings. We're sick of my older brother telling us what to do. We're challenging him for power.

In extended family politics, I just usually agree with my dad. Mostly since I have other things to worry about than their bullshit. In immediate family, my dad and I have similar politics. Though if we do disagree, mom, bro, and sis come to my side. Again, probably because I am more educated on topics. Though we don't disagree often so it doesn't sound as hard as your family Darkhorse.

Is this some Game of Thrones role play?

Maybe my family is just full of Mavericks then. We do what we want, when we want. There's no councils or conferring. Maybe that's why the family holidays are exciting. Usually someone gets into a fight or feelings get hurt.

As for actual politics we have republicans and democrats, liberals A and conservatives. If anything I'm the black sheep because I registered independent thinking politics are too complicated with an over-powering bipartisan government. And I don't identify as a Christian.

My family also doesn't have politics like that. I mean, obviously when my sister and I were young, we had to run things by our parents and get their permission. But now that we're all adults we can ask for their advice and support, but ultimately we all make our own decisions. There's no council or head person, even amongst extended families. No one really defers to anyone else. *shrug* Maybe it's cause we're (extended family) so widespread around the world. We just don't see each other as much. We also run the gamut in terms of religion and political ideology. My cousins in LA are christian, some in China are buddhists, my immediate family is more agnostic/atheist, and whatever else might be in between. I think politically, we skew a little left but there's not a lot of us in the States and then the older generation doesn't really care about US politics. Haha it's hard to even say who's the most educated. Every one of my cousins have at least a bachelors, with a good majority having doctorates. Haha, hard to really pick a leader so to speak
