Drawing Tablets?

I do a lot of drawing in my spare time, and it's one of my favorite activities. I really want to upgrade from pencil and paper and get a drawing tablet, but I don't have any clue how to go about it. I just want advice on which ones work best for a reasonable price and also which might be beginner friendly. Thanks!

People say the Wacom Cintiq is a really good one to go for since it has a screen built in for you to draw on but it's pretty pricey x_x I'm using a Wacom Intuos which is much cheaper and while I've seen most digital artists use it, it does take a LOT of time to get used to - got one myself recently and they aren't lying :I Doesn't help when my hand shakes like crazy and my coordination skills suck XD But then again art isn't exactly my forte but it's good for fun o/ But yeah! It depends on whether you want to spend more money for an easier experience or less money for a more challenging experience - up to you I guess o/

I have a Wacom my self. I enjoy it. Still weird for me when drawing on since I'm use to pencils. I like mind to kind of a mid small level Wacom Intuos Touch that I like.

cintiq is freaking expensive so i dont recommend it for beginners unless u got a fat stack o cash. try wacom pen and touch instead. its from $80-200 depending on the size. the medium one has a decently large drawing area, four shortcut buttons and has 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity. wowza!

I don't know your money situation, but if you can swing it, go for the Wacom Cintiq tablets that are normally $200. Ask for it for your birthday or Christmas. It's so worth it. If you have time, I would browse auctions on e-Bay. I got a used awesome wacom cintiq from an auction for $60 when it is normally $200. Best purchase I ever made~

I'd say that Wacom is a very legitimate company to buy your first tablet from. But, with digital art becoming more and more popular, their cheapest tablet series (Bamboo) has gone up in price. There ARE alternatives to Wacom if money is a concern (There is a weird brand called "Picasso" that was a large tablet that was $30 at Fry's electronics. ) My first tablet was a Wacom intuos 4. But due to the circuitry going out on the USB port, i had to upgrade to a Intuos 5. (would definitely recommend, even though i ran into the same issues and had to send it into wacon for repairs. Also when you get your tablet, you might find it odd to maneuver (pen & cursor location.) a lot of my friends said they had that issue, i have never had that issue, but it's possible you might as a starter. But a HUGE issue i ran into when becoming used to the tablet would be that i would spend too much time drawing on the tablet that i would forget to draw traditionally, or i would mess up (not be as good as drawing as i used to )because i was so used to just drawing and editing. So it's nice to remember to properly switch between the two.
