Dub vs Sub or both equally good?

shy_anikki
I like both.... but when i am not feeling well... or my eyes are tired... i watch DUB.... I watch a sub anime and missed all the subtitles... and then i found out that i must of not been feeling well.... I broke my leg... so im watch dub anime..... darn... :(

It depends on the Anime for me. Some Dubs are awful, some are great, and some times it makes sense for it to be one way over the other. for example, any kind of generic highschool or slice of life anime I tend to watch as subs. Why would they be speaking English? However, something like FMA, where the dub is great and most people have more European names I think it makes more sense in English.

I love dubs, allows me to multitask but I love subs more. Just raw emotion that can't be translated

I prefer dubs because the words at the bottom in subs sometimes go by faster than I can read them but I do watch subs when the dub is not avaliable or taking a while to come out.

I like both, dubbed because I can leave the room or turn around and still hear everything (I'm lazy lol). I also grew up with my favorite shows dubbed as a kid so some anime I won't watch unless it's the dubbed version. Subbed cause of the enthusiasm and passion the actors/ actresses always have. Plus theres way more subbed anime than dubbed so that's a plus for me. And sometimes the subbed anime just flat out sounds better, as far as the character to voice actor selection.

it could be a lot of reasons, but i always pick sub before dub, japanese culture flows through anime and manga, and they just seem to put a whole heck of a lot more "into" making anime and manga, the intensity and professionalism of their voice actors is ridiculous, there are obvious exceptions, like the Funimation english dub of the Dragon Ball series, omg

I never understood the obsession with subs and some misplaced sense of purity. The only reason I would say a sub is better is if the dub makes huge changes to the script for the worse. I'm not against script changes if it works. I just don't get some of the hate for shows with stellar English casts. Like I never understood why people hate the Code Geass dub, it has veterans like Johnny Young Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal, and Crispin Freeman, how the hell can you bash those guys? Basically, I don't watch subs unless there's no dub.

I would have to say it depends of the anime. Although more of them I personally like better in sub but that might just be because i only really watch sub. One of my favorite anime series, Black Lagoon, I like better dubbed and can't stand the sub, although its the opposite with One Piece.

I would have to say that they are both equally good. With subs you can learn some of the language just by watching the show. With dub sometimes the characters voices just don't look like they match the character's look. And in anime quite often the author will put in play on word jokes, but the joke on work in japanese.

Subs. If subs not available, then raw.
