Tabbacco & Quiting

crimsonsun2xseries
Anyone here smoke or do chewing tabbacco? I have been doing chewing tabacco for 5 years now. It's like breathing at this point. My tongue's taste buds are probably damaged beyond repair. Teeth stained. Pretty gross, but it's what I use to deal with shit. I want to quit badly, but every time I think of quiting, I "scare" myself away from the idea and basically give up before trying. Anyone have any success with quiting either smoking or chew? I need tips. I do not have that cliche "support person(s)" to say "That's it, keep 'er goin!" So, don't mention that. I know that's a good thing to have, but it's not practical in my situation. Thanks! Btw. Just to give you an idea of how bad it's become I get a tin everyday, it's finished by that day's end. I'd say I spend about 5 hours a day with that shit in my mouth. Been exactly like that for 3 years. (Maybe 5 times total I have not had a tin for a day)

I think perhaps this is a conversation that's best had with either your primary care doctor and perhaps a therapist. They probably will have more tools that can help you with quitting than anyone here has :/ Good luck!

Most likely... Thanks very much, miss .

Agree with xueli about seeking professional help to overcome this, but no amount of doctors, meetings, supporters or alternative products (nicotine patches, gum, etc.) can help you until you make the changes yourself, find the strength within you. That you decided this is a problem and you want help is just a start, following through is the hard part. Something as small as telling yourself every day why you need to quit is progress if it helps you to reduce how much you use each day. Good luck.

I started smoking around the age of sixteen, quit around twenty for about seven years and picked it back up out of boredom and depression. I smoked maybe half a pack a day at my height and smoke about five a day at work and maybe two while I'm off ( or more when I drink...I mean, smoking does feel that much better while drinking. ). You may stop the addiction, but I never forgot how it felt. I originally quit cold turkey, but I know it's different for everyone. The only way to quit is to want to really quit and not give in or give up. You will not die or suffer any physical ill effects by quitting, you may be moody for a bit though. When there's a will there's a way. Chewing sugar free gum kind of helps too. I only say sugar free because you will chew a lot out of stress and you don't want to rot your teeth out.Another good thing is to have ssomeone who will hold you accountable, not being a nagging ass, but a supportive friend. Best of luck.

Chewing tobacco is fairly destructive. Find pictures of the guys with holes rotted through their jaw/lip, that might motivate you. Cigarettes are my worst vice and the last dragon I must slay to be free. I thought I could do it on my own and failed multiple times or restarted after a couple months. I started in HS as it was the cool thing to do at the time lol. The longer you wait the harder it gets. I am weary of those e-cigs but some swear by them as you can ween down the nicotine. For me it is part escape to leave my desk as I sit in a chair too much and have to move around. If I am inside people are tasking me with something. I promised my aunt before she died I would not give up until I succeeded. My work has some cool benefits for it so I have decided 2015 will be the time and place. I think I am kind of avoiding relationships for now in case I turn into a real bastard lol.

I feel it's my need to point out that it's spelled "tobacco". Other than that, I don't have anything else to offer that hadn't been said.

^^^ I literally have been trying to remember the spelling for a year now; I was conscious of the fact that I most likely misspelled it. Is it just me, or do most get it wrong? + Thanks for the advice peoples. I just need to decide a date because just waking up and saying "Today's the day, dammnit!" for me does not work. I'll keep you updated if this turns into a success story.

HEY!! i know how you feel.. I stopped smoking 4 months ago after 2 years of smoking two packs everyday! The first week is the toughest. You need to constantly remind yourself why you want to stop smoking. For me, i wanted to stop because i liked girls who didn't smoke (its hard to attract them when you smoke too lol), I wanted to be less self-conscious about the way I smell when i hug people (lol), and I found out that my lips and teeth would look healthier after 4 weeks of no smoking. Just set a goal and go for it! My friends and coworkers always say "I can definitely tell you let go of the cigars and cigarettes." You'll see results after 4 weeks trust me! You'll save a lot of money too.... Im supporting you a 100% of the way. Good luck

Thanks Mugen. Yeah, broadening dating horizons is a perk but living long enough to enjoy it has taken priority for me as I have smoked for most of the last 20 years. Fortunately mostly unfinished lights as I seem to pick high stress environments for work that leave me no time to finish anything. I stopped smoking in my house years ago as it slayed many of my servers or had roommates that did not smoke or they had kids. It is also easier to keep a clean house that smells nice. If I have to go out in the cold I smoke less.
