Being friends with an ex?

I agree, it depends of how the relationship ended. And if you can maintain that awkward silence you got there for the moment, I think it's okay to be friends with your Ex, but if he/she gets emotional I'd leave them for good. I mean it does sound hard but actually it's the best idea to be honest. Because you never re-date an Ex, I'm not saying it's a bad idea but it could end in a result of breaking up again.

I've only done the breaking up in my relationships, but they all didn't take it too hard when I told them it was because I felt we weren't compatible. If the parting is because of a boyfriend/girlfriend cheating or being abusive, then you'd be better off just forgetting about them anyway.

I'm friends with my first ex. But we have this understanding that when we get a new partner we don't interact with each other that much as it would bug our current partners. It was really bad at first when we broke up I think it took us 3 years before we actually became friends again. But I'm glad that was fixed cause we're better off as friends XD

I will say this from my experience! DONT DO IT! avoid it at all costs. Unless both of you mutually agreed on the break up.

I would definitely not do it if you still have feelings for them, trust me it's painful. Otherwise, if you can stay being friends, why not.

Two of my current best friends were previously dating me. I consider them friends rather than ex. It depends on the people really. Do they like each other as genuine friends, or just wanna get in each others' pants? Did their break up leave them with negative or awkward feelings? Some relationships can either strengthen or break friendships.
