I played the trial and it was amazing. We were on the fence about it for a long time because the monthly fee but it has just so much content it will hold us while other new releases drop to better prices. Win Win. Hah. Also what class should I choose? Hes going summoner/healer.

Choosing your class depends on what role you want to fill. Do you want to Tank? Be a Healer? DPS? I can tell you that being either a Tank or Healer usually leads to less downtime when waiting to run a dungeon. I would invest in both a Keyboard and Mouse too if you're playing on consoles since it allows you to communicate more quickly, or at least find other users using the playstation and form a party using voice chat.

Off topic but would also like to say that FFXI was pretty damn cool (and didn't completely fudge its release) Sandy representing :P.
