Anyone here live on their own or rent an apartment with someone? I finally moved out of my parents house in an apartment last September with my twin brother. I have to say it's great and it forces you to mature, cook :P, and no nagging from the parents anymore lol. Responsibilities are endless, but well worth it. I'm now concentrating on paying just bills which I hope to pay off soon. So anyone else here in my shoes? :)

Well, I´m studying at Oporto (260 Km from my town) with a friend of mine. I`m at his apartment and it`s awesome. I have responsibilities of course, but I take my own decisions with no one to stop me. That`s the best thing about living on my own.

exactly making decisions on your own and maturing through your rights and wrongs for example paying bills on time :P

I'd love to but without having two jobs or splinting a place with someone it'd be impossible for me. That said, financially speaking it doesn't make any scene. sure it sucks, but I'm saving tons of money by living with a parent. If I was working and paying my own bills and rent I'd have little spare money and no free time, this way I have both.

Yea especially with the economy going and all. Here in NJ i'll be honest if you're not making at least 35k a year you can forget about it. The taxes kill you here and you'd be surprised at what they charge you for a 1 bedroom apartment it's ridiculous.

I don't know about what it's like in the US but paying for rent on your own with an average job here in Australia isn't really viable, if you have a partner it'd be manageable. I've been living with 3 friends I've had since highschool for about 8 years now, splitting the rent/bills four ways makes life a lot easier on the wallet.
I've often wanted to just live on my own but it'd cost too much to be worth the gain in personal freedom.

I first moved out of the house when I went to college on the other side of the country and then I lived in Asia and Europe for work and now I'm back in my hometown. Roommates are definitely nice in having people to hang out with and helpful financially, given that you don't have flaky roommates, but there's something really relaxing about being by yourself too.

@Da-uman, it really depends on where in the US it is. Like when I lived in San Francisco it was basically 5 people packed into a 2 bedroom apartment since rent is insane there. For the same amount that I would have to pay for a 600 sqft studio in the bay area, I could rent/buy a house in Houston
