To get to Japan, first you need to check if you need an entry visa. Unless you plan to go to a work conference or chat with locals, getting around Japan having zero knowledge of the Japanese language is possible (though arduous). Learn at least how the Japanese conduct themselves in society; you don't want to appear rude.

I know right? They can be all oh we are so normal in social situations but apparently they're strict as hell about everything else like job mannerisms and what not. I don't even know if you have to act a certain way at a diner man xD I wonder. I hope they're not that anal about everything as I'm thinking *raises eyebrow*

I actually created a topic about learning Japanese a while back, there's some useful information in there that may help you. http://maiotaku.com/mytopics/563/mytopics/14733 Now visiting(Not staying long term) in Japan you don't require to need knowledge on Japanese, but due to the culture and how different it is, it's recommended you atleast understand things like table manners, and how to greet people properly. Now staying long term there may be some implications. There's a limit on how long a visitor can stay in Japan before they need a visa(Correct me of I'm wrong!). If you can land a job over there for a corporation, you'll need a working visa in order to work. I believe it's about 5 years of living in Japan and renewing you become a resident. I used to know a guy on Youtube who lived over there, he had numerous videos about these sorts of things. If you're staying long term you must know how to speak atleast basic Japanese otherwise it may just make things difficult. That's basically like moving to Germany and not understating German even though it's their native language. Most of the info for staying long term, or living can most likely be answered by an immigration office. If you're in Canada there's a department that specialises in this sort of thing. Not sure about the states or UK however.

Buy the book "D!rty Japanese: Everyday slang from "What's up?" to "F*%# off!" by Matt Fargo, I found that to be a splendid start! and since you're from Norway it's even easier to get (Take that from me! a.k.a fellow norwegian XD)
