Anime that changed you?

wildchild_inc
Initial D always had philisophical quotes about chasing your dreams and never giving up to become the best that you can be. It's all the reason why I got into drifting at the early age of 9. http://a.nime.me/0050/4183/id_v2.jpg

Evangelion, though not for the reasons you may initially think. What really effected me in Evangelion was seeing another teenage boy trying and failing to connect with his father. I went through my teenage years with almost no contact with my dad, and being a pretty meek kid I was quite a bit like Shinji all-around. Somehow, watching the series made me feel better about my own problems. I don't really know why. Maybe it's the whole "misery loves company" thing, or maybe it was the fact that no matter how bad my life got at least I didn't have to fight giant monsters. Or barring that, maybe the fact that someone with so much angst could still be a hero. Regardless, I doubt I would have gotten through my rough teenage years quite so well without Evangelion. I'll also freely admit that Kaji is like 90% of the reason I have long hair, and that spending a ton of time picking apart the symbolism and trying to decrypt the series also changed how I look at fiction. I'm much more analytic of shows now and I'm always looking for the deeper meaning.

Before the Netflix & Hulu binge watching days, I watched anime on TV in the teen years. Inuyasha, Big O, Witch Hunter Robin, ... Basically anything late night Cartoon Network. Got busy with school, college. Finally a few years ago I saw Black Butler on Netflix. It looked interesting since it was anime AND a period piece, Jack the Rippery. I watched it and fell in love with anime again-AND J Michael Tatum's voice..which then led me to watching more anime again. So, thanks Kuroshitsuji!

Fullmetal Alchemist. No matter how hard it gets or who you face if you're fighting for the right thing you will have more courage and a better chance to succeed and family and friends are very important. Avatar the last airbender although technically not an "anime". Amazing story telling, animation and life lessons. Inspired me to want to get into animation and writing.

So, I know a lot of people are gonna laugh at me for this, but the only anime I can think of that changed me is...Pokemon, (Cue the laughter). It changed me into an anime fan when I was 7 or so.
