What is a meetup or a convention like?

I've never had any friends who were into anime or manga and I hate being alone, so I've never gone to any conventions and I am kinda shy and have no idea what a meetup would be like. How would you guys describe them, and how do I find meetups....

Conventions are like a family gathering. 95% of the people there are super nice, and easy to talk to. Most of the people there are very eccentric, and love to gush over their favorite character cosplays. It's definitely worth going to one if you're into anime and manga, just be ready for hotel fees, the ticket prices, and tons of people depending on the con you want to go to. I understand how you feel, I was by myself for the last con I went to, and even though I had fun, I wish I had someone to explore with. However, given how friendly the people are, it will not be hard to make friends :) I hope you're able to come to a convention soon
