Spouses family?

well ideally I think you'd want them to like you and accept you. If they don't that might make things awkward at times and might complicate things, but at the end of the day their opinion doesn't really matter. If my family for instance doesn't like who I like then they can just bite me.

I'm a bit old fashioned on this. If you marry someone, you marry their family so it's best to try to keep the piece whether you like them or not. Distance helps if you don't like them, but if you're in the same city or state as them, do your best to keep the peace. That doesn't mean you have to take any disrespectful behavior, but when trouble arises, be the bigger person.

You should be on good terms with your spouse's family, or at least their parents. Respect for respect, you don't have to adore them but at least try to get along.

Try to get along, for the sake of your girl/boyfriend. You will have to deal with the family in the future so might as well try and get on their good side

Trying to get along is for the best. With that being said, I agree with the others that respect has to be received as well as given.
