Why are pedophiles considered mentally ill?

Yes, but that was also back in the time when marrying at 13 was socially accepted. The terms aren't used often because most people simply use pedophile, child molester, Etc. Normally, I'm not one to care about sociological norms, but when it comes to children who are manipulated by adults for their sexual gratification, "consentual" or not, that's where my moral lines at.

Anna, what was it you never said?? I never claimed that you said anything other than "the question was is pedophilia a mentall illness", but I did say that the statement was wrong, since my question never was "is it an illnes" but it was "why is it an illness" And Arc, excactly information like the one you pointed out here is why I started this thread, to learn stuff like that. I din't know that before, and being curious as I am, I am quite happy to have learned something new. And Anna, I may be misunderstanding you, but it sounds like you think that i say that a pedophiles thought are acceptable, is that what you are saying? I know that I may not have expressed my self clearly enough on where I stand, so I'll try to summarise my opinion: I don't think that pedophiles thoughts or actions are good or acceptable, but I think that pedophiles are people who need help, and completely excluding them from society is not the help they need. Instead they need help like talking to psychiatrists, having friends that can lead their mind elsewhere. every minute that a pedophile spends playing FIFA with a friend is a minute less spend thinking about children.

Also, Anna, it seems that you think i am the actual pedophile. I can guarantee you that is not the case. If I was, and i had already told all of I know in real life, why would i hide it on an internetside where I could easily just get a new identity any time I wanted?

By the way Jean, I think you are right that no one is going to change their view on pedophilia, and i already gave up on persuading people. People have the right to think hovewer they wish. I just continue this thread out of curiosity and because i like discussing things. Not because i want to be right, because, as you said, right and wrong is hard to determine (even though I'm sure that I'll be seing comments saying that pedophilism is absolutely wrong, which to some extend I agree with). I continue The thread because I find people's responces enlightening. I think disussions are a good and healthy way to learn from other people and about other people as well.
