Ever seen an anime with an amazing opening or ending, or just had an awesome song from its soundtrack that resonated with you and you loved it so much that you wanted to learn it, cover it, or remix it?
I know I have. Being a big FFVII fanboy I've remixed the battle theme several times, and I've also done remixes of the Ninja Gaiden theme and the Power Rangers theme. But recently, given that I've been working to expand my repertoire to even more instruments that I already play (currently, I play bass guitar, rudimentary drums and percussion, Tro-Sau/Erhu, self-taught music theory and how to read treble, bass, and C-clef, and also am a music producer, DJ, and rapper, and I plan on continuing to learn violin, and learning electric and acoustic guitar, Japanese flutes, Ocarina, Clarinet, Western Flute, and upright bass, and plan on re-learning xylophone, misc percussion, keyboard, finger drumming, controllerism, and maybe dabble in some singing and similar vocals as well, and learning Vocaloid 3), I've come across (and revisited) some anime songs that I want to do a multi-instrumentalist cover of. Listed below is a countdown on the ones I want to cover/remix and what instruments and perform for YouTube, generally playing multiple instruments and doing a split-screen video:
6. Dancing in the Velvet Moon - Nana Mizuki (Rosario + Vampire Ending)
http://youtu.be/CbrqK5cjJWM
Guitar with Vocaloid for vocals and my production skills in everything else.
This one's a little ambitious and likely won't be done, but that won't mean I sure as heck won't try it.
5. Tank! - The Seatbelts (Cowboy Bebop Opening)
http://youtu.be/T6zDfxZ4NcE
Bass guitar only. Nothing else in that song I can play and there's hardly any vocals. I might try for two versions: a Bass Guitar version and an Upright Bass version.
4. Lucky Star Opening (err...the Lucky Star Opening)
http://youtu.be/80l6tvxTpTI
Turntabalism/Controllerism routine, or maybe bass guitar, I really don't know, this song is a little unique, but I want to do something with it. I only just started watching Lucky Star, and ya darn right I want to work with this song some way or another.
3. Resonance - T.M. Revolution (Soul Eater Opening)
http://youtu.be/fviG6uUH9a0
Vocals, and possibly guitar, and maybe finger drumming as well. This would likely be the only vocal cover I'd ever do most likely.
2. Raspberry Heaven - Oranges & Lemons (Azumanga Daioh Ending)
http://youtu.be/NSr1yQY0XbI
Acoustic, Bass, Flute, and Violin, with digital drums and Vocaloid vocals. This one I think would be difficult because it's in 6/4 time. But that won't stop me from doing it.
1. Again - Yui (FMA: Brotherhood Opening)
http://youtu.be/2uq34TeWEdQ
Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, and Bass Guitar, with Vocaloid (likely Hatsune Miku) for the vocals and digital drums (I'm not that good at drums). I'm debating whether to do the short piano part in the intro. FMA: Brotherhood has a very special place in my heart and the first opening, Again by Yui resonates with me so strongly that I've literally made it a goal to cover the song in four different instruments and uploading a split-screen video on YouTube.
Yeah, I'm ambitious, but I also know that I can do it because I've done other remixes before. Either way though, I definitely want to do these songs using my musical skills. And, there maybe more to this list in the future.
Anyways, how about you all? Ever come across an anime song that just stuck with you or resonated with you so strongly that you wanted (or want to) do something similar to what I'm attempting? Or am I just the only one who's that obsessed with anime songs?
