So I'm going to do a Grey Fullbuster cosplay at Otakon wondering which version of him you all think I should do? no matter which it is, I know I'm not going to be wearing a shit so should I do the cargo pants version, or the 'underwear' if I do that, should I get a swimsuit or biker shorts or what? ideas?

(Wish this would have been made sooner! lol) I'm doing a genderbent cosplay of Sabo Chief of Staff of the Revolutionary Army from One Piece. (As opposed to Sabo as a kid though they are one in the same.) And I pretty much have it together, I have my progress photo as my profile pic. Now... I am wondering...Should I do his Dragon Claw move? It's like doing the Spock thing with your fingers, then bending them! I described it to my friend as "Live long and - AUGH! GONNA RIP OFF YOUR FACE!" Anyway, my only concern is it can look retarded, it's not easy to do, and my hands are not used to being manipulated in such a way. lol Also, I am a little bit worried that people won't recognize me as Sabo, cause I have to use my steampunk welder goggles that I bought for fun times. (And because I'm a steampunk kind of person.) I ordered some blue angled goggles but they haven't arrived nor do I ever expect them to. Also, he doesn't have an official color theme in the manga yet, I think this is to build up excitement for the anime. So! I don't know what color his pants are. D: I'm going with tan/khaki colored leggings under my black corset skirt. And... my wig is a little bit of a darker blonde... I ordered it with the impression it'd be lighter than it is. The good parts are I have certain important details which I hope people recognize: 1) His scar! He has a burn scar over his left eye, and I have managed to capture it, but maybe too accurately cause I showed my friends and a few of them shrieked in horror, "What the fuck happened?!" lol 2) His jabot. The two-layered ascot thingie that hangs on his neck. It took longer than it should have to sew it, but it has been sewn. I decided to do him a while ago, but I wasn't planning on doing it for AX, cause I wanted to get an Ace and a Luffy to be done as girls and was hoping for springtime so mine could be steampunk, and possibly the other two be a lolita-esque look. Then my friend texts me two weeks ago, "DO SABO! WE HAVE A GARP!" and for some reason that was all I needed to get it started. lol I feel a lot of pressure cause he's kind of a big deal and he's probably going to show up within the next month if not the next few weeks. >_< So little time! I gotta do it right!

cast: unfortunately i have no idea who that is. hopefully some one who does will appear and be able to help you. but it also comes down to comfort miss: if you want to do it for picture poses then do it. if your worried about your hands position just practice it in your down time when your not using your hands. for the costume, i'm sure there are colored photos somewhere you just really have to search. creators always have a released colored photo of manga characters for their own references. --- Please don't "lolita" an anime character @.@ i have to hear the girls in the lolita communities bitch and complain everytime some one does that. their last one was about some attack on titan girl doing it.

Eh. I can't make my friends do lolita anyway. :P I think they have their own idea of how they want to cosplay their corresponding characters, and while they are on board for doing ASL, one of them actually loathes lolita! So I don't think it'd be a go, it was just an idea I thought I could get people on board for. :P As for the lolita community... Augh! D: Who wants to listen to bitching all the time? lol I'd rather live my life. I love lolita fashion because it is cute and fun, but bitchy people suck the fun out of it. >_< I think that it's what got me more into steampunk really, loving all the geeky fun stuff, loving fashionable clothes, and then combining them into something awesome. Now, as for the color theme. Oda likes to build excitement over his characters, and Sabo... he's been in the series already so his color theme does exist. However after the 2 year time skip of the anime, everyone's costumes have changed, and therefore their colors too may have changed. Sabo is a pretty big deal, so while Oda has released how some of the characters look in color and how they look after the timeskip... He has kept the fans in suspense about how Sabo looks in color. He even did a two-page color artwork for the manga like... last week. He totally could have had Sabo on that page... but he didn't! I partially went off of his original color theme- Blue jacket, jabot, top hat, goggles, boots. Then added my steampunk twist to it. I just couldn't figure whether to go with light blue pants or tan. I went for tan anyway. I kind of conceded that if they don't recognize Sabo I just gotta go back to the drawing board and try harder! lol

For those of you that buy your Cosplay: where do you buy from? I myself do not buy, cause I think making it is better. But, if someone doesn't sew I'd like them to make a wise decision.

There's a few characters that I want to cosplay, but thus far, not many. First off, is Rude from FFVII. I've got the goatee, I've got the shaved head, and I can swap my absurdly strong prescription glasses for similar sunglasses for pictures. Plus, it wouldn't be all that difficult to make, and he's a favorite character of mine. It's a win-win. Secondly, I want to go as an Agent from the Hitman series of games. As much as I hate the idea of shaving my goatee, I would be willing to do it to don the red tie, dual 1911 handguns (props of course), and a fake bar code tattoo on the back of my head. As an anime character, the one that I actually would really love to do, with some help from a wig, is Maes Hughes from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I've got the same style of glasses, can grow the same facial hair, wear a wig easily since I shave my head, get the costume (no way I'll be able to make his military costume, it's much too complex), and get my hands on some prop push-knives that he's known for wielding. That, and I'm sure I could perform his character fairly well, with Elicia and Gracia's pictures of course. I can't think of any others that I'd really want to do, though. I guess I haven't seen enough anime. Well, MUST WATCH MORE then!

I bought all my cosplays for the first two years I cosplayed. I mainly bought from fanplusfriend, hellocosplay, and cosplayfu. cosplayfu is one of the cheaper sites so youre more at risk when it comes to quality but so far with the 3 costumes I bought from there have been fantastic. hellocosplay has this thing where SOMETIMES the wig is included with the cosplay [it usually says in the description] and thats pretty damn handy. I bought a stocking cosplay and the wig and the cosplay was very good quality. Fanplusfriend was ok... I didnt like some of the materials they used... the fabric was kind of thin. I never bought from them again but I know they are pretty good when it comes to lolita according to my friends. I mainly learned how to sew because there were cosplays that I couldnt buy and I wanted to be a part of more groups that catered to newer series so I forced myself to learn.

@CandyCandy: Thanks! that was really helpful! The skirt I am using for my genderbent Sabo is from Fan Plus Friend I think. I bought it second hand. I like to buy second hand because the previous owner will tell you about the piece. It's actually really good quality fabric but the stitching made me homicidal! So I went back, pulled out some of the seams, then restitched the seams more nicely. @Mr. Ambig life is short! Start with Rude and go from there! They all sound great. :)
