Thoughts on visual kei

kaijuotaku
what are your thoughts on visual kei? do you like it? what do you think of it etc

I love it. It's a big part of my life. It actually helped make me what I am now. An outgoing person with good friends, a love and understanding for music. Understanding of the music industry. And also a strong appreciation of fashion. A lot of the styling is gothic, glam rock, hair metal and such. The fashion is a huge focus. Despite that many musicians in VK are talented. They write their own music a lot of the time, and I really admire their dedication. Lately, the VK world has gotten a bit stagnant. I feel a lot of the old VK powers that be such as Dir en grey, Yoshiki, and Despairs Ray are actually doing what they can to breathe new life into the scene now, and I am very appreciative.

OMG! Love it! Unfortunately I currently work a customer service job so I have to look normal and can't do anything crazy with my hair. I really need to check out some new J-rock bands.

@missallyesterday, Yoshiki was recently in Cali, did you get the chance to see him? :3 I think VK is beautiful, i've fallen out of it for quite sometime now but props to them for all the effort they put into their looks! :3

Japan has always had some interesting sense of fashion and music, however I've never been a huge into VK and only like a few of the bands associated with it like Versailles. I personally preferred more of the underground Japanese music like Japanese math-rock or post-rock which surprisingly is pretty different than the usual math/post-rock styles. I think the band Toe nicely sums up the genres although there isn't really a fashion sense/aesthetic to go along with it except for maybe the depth of emotion that's shown when they play live.

@ilovepinkstuff Yeah! He lives there in LA! ^_^ But, I didn't get to see him at his live cause work. My friend took lots of photos for me, though! <3 @Toe Nothing wrong with that. I have seen some pretty good ones. They tend to have artistic music videos. I think I was introduced to math/post rock by a friend that said Kyary Pamu Pamu reminded him of another band. (We were at a party and they were spinning random stuff) :) Versailles was a pretty talented band. Kamijo has some solo work going on now, I hope it is similarly good.

My ex got to see Yoshiki in person and was originally picked to be part of a group of girls to go have dinner with him but because they were going someplace to drink and she was only 20, and not 21, she couldn't go....she was in tears over it.

Poor girl. /: I could have, but I decided not because it was all the way in NY.

She saw him at ACEN in Chicago I think, I wasn't able to go that year.
