I'm not really sure if I'm an otaku, actually... I certainly really like manga and such like, but I have a normal life as well. Most people wouldn't know that I was interested in anime/manga unless I told them. But hey, in Japan, being an "otaku" isn't a good thing. I think half the people that call themselves otaku's within the US are just people that like anime/manga. To be an actual otaku, it has to be your life basically. You live, breathe, and eat anime/manga. You can't carry on about anything else besides it, etc. But hey, thats my opinion.

Here's dictionary.com's definition of Otaku: an avid collector or enthusiast, esp. one who is obsessed anime, video games, or computer and rarely leaves home Oh, and if you didn't know, otaku can refer to other obsessions besides that of anime. There are train otakus, etc. I learned that in Japan this summer lol
