How do you define ''a good person'' ?

jotarokaiba
What exactly is it that makes us differentiate good and evil ? Different religions and different societies will most likely have a different point of view on this. Speak your mind.

I define a good person as someone who does not break serious laws such as murder. Also, they are genuinely kind to everyone and don't judge without warrant. Those are the large things on my list.

Interesting. I mostly agree with your points. Someone who is capable of commiting murder out of no reason can not be accepted by me as a good person. However, those obvious points, that most sane people would name ,are not everything which defines someone as a good person to me. Life has taught me that there are people who would act as your best friend, always smile and help everyone out. Yet in a life or death situation they think only of themselves and easily sacrifice anything and anyone who is standing in their way. That is the kind of person I just hate. You dont have to be a hero, catch a bullet for random people, but in a situation where danger approaches, you must not only think of yourself. Even if you value your life aboth the life of others, I would not consider you a human if you just run away, leaving all others to die. Thats my opinion mostly.

That is why I said genuinly. If they aren't genuine about it, they don't truthfully mean it.

Think of others, and don't degrade people. Help your family and greet people with a smile. Don't look at their flaws, but at their hearts. Also, it doesn't hurt to follow the Ten Commandments or remember the Beatitudes (that is how I try to live my life).

I really think so long as you're not harming or exploiting anyone (or at least making a serious attempt not to) it shouldn't matter whether you're "good" or not. Who are we trying to impress with our goodness? I mean, it's generally to help people when you can, but it's really a broad question.

The only thing that defines a good person is our own perspective towards the specific individual. Really the only opinion that matters is yours alone and the opinions of others warping what you think is right, wrong, good, or bad. There is a social "norm" which is generally the mass public, however in my opinion there is no such thing as "norm" only sense of self. All of our opinions of "good person" "bad person" differ and also have similarities.

I think whatever is in your 'best interest' as a person is 'good' and whatever fights against that interest is 'bad'. Some quote off I saw while doing things on the internet some time ago but am too lazy to search for "While one man may be seen as a terrorist, others may view him as a hero." Again, whatever suits your needs in a beneficial way. You could bring in social norms and god help me 'morals' but for the most part I think it boils down to that.

I am a good person because my mommy said so.

In this society nothing is good or bad its hypocritical really and very confusing.
