PS4..Is it worth it?

shefoxy
I've stopped keeping up with video games and consoles ever since I started college 11 years ago. All I've got is my old PS2with a few games which I could never get myself to let go. When I found out that the PS3 wasn't backwards compatible except for the rare and hard to find 1st edition, I gave up on it. Now I hear that the PS4 is coming out and I'm wondering whether or not it's worth the investment. Is it backwards compatible to at least play the PS3 games? What games are there? Any avid gamers out there wanna advise this behind-the-times girl?

PS4 owner here, Overall this console has ALOT of great potential especially with the games coming out. But remember this is a Launch system still so there isn't that many games to get. But the ones that are out are pretty fun to play. No Backwards Compatibility with PS3 games sadly, they are planning on doing a cloud streaming service to stream PS3 games with your disc but won't happen til next year. Overall you can get the system now and have the library grow in time and get used to the functions. If you are a hardcore gamer I'd recommend it but avid to normal its up to you. If you want to play online you need to be subcribed to PSN+ (similar to Xbox Live) but they give you 1 month free subscription and $10 coupon. The games out now are varied with shooters, sports, etc but next year we will see alot more titles to play. It has apps like Netflix, Crunchyroll, etc and can play blu-ray movies and dvds but yeh. If you need more input I'd be happy to help.

Hrm.. Thanks for the info. I actually don't play very much because I work full time and I'm starting my own business, which is why I was wondering if the console was worth investing in. I'll look at the games available for it and see if there's anything I absolutely CANNOT live without. If so, I may consider it. Thanks again~ :)

I always wait a year or two before buying a new game system because they always have problems when first released. Examples include the Xbox 360 having the red ring of death, Wii had remotes that didn't came with a wrist-strap and could fly out of your hands, and PS3 had a $600 price mark. But still, if you want to get the PS4 that's up to you, I just expressing my opinion.

I also generally wait until either a price drop or a good bundle deal. Just because by then the bugs are worked out and there's also a better library, with potentially launch titles being cheaper. But I don't mind waiting a while until I buy a console, so it's not that great idea if you don't want to wait that long :P

Its currently the closest thing that i have to a girlfriend. I love mine. Its smooth and pretty and I can watch crunchy roll smoother than I did on ps3.

I have no problem with waiting. It's been months since I last played a game, if that gives you an idea on how much I play. I've got my old PS2 and a few games. I have one Wii game and one computer game. I'm debating between the Wii or an old Nintendo system as well.. One of three consoles I may invest in in a few months or so. First, I need a TV. Haven't had a TV in 5years or more since it's only a distraction for me, so I need that first before I get a new console if I wanna play games. :P
