It’s been one year since the failure of the Black Rebellion and the supposed death of Zero. Britannia has assigned Area 11 a “correctional education” status, where Elevens are made an example of by brute force, to try to prevent any future uprisings and suppress rebellious thoughts.

The story revolves around a supernatural system where, anyone with a powerful grudge may summon the Hell Girl, a mysterious entity that will exact her client’s revenge with the price of damning their own souls to hell after they die. After torturing the cursed target by letting him/her relive inside her/his own cruelty and injustice, Hell Girl ferries the poor soul into Hell, where eternal pain and suffering awaits them.

On June 1983, Keiichi Maebara moves with his family to Hinamizawa, a peaceful rural village. He quickly befriends his new schoolmates Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Hojo, and Rika Furude, usually spending their leisure time playing board games.

The story picks up after what happened in season one. Things that are left unexplained in the first season get explained in the new season in three separate arcs.
