Yamato 2199 [TV]

In the year 2199, Earth has been reduced to a radioactive desert wasteland. Constant attacks by aliens belonging to the planet Gamilus have forced the remaining population underground, but then a friendly alien race from the planet Iscandar decides to help the humans by giving them blueprints for a powerful engine capable of faster than light travel. A space battleship is built with the Wave Motion Engine and it’s crew embarks on a journey to the large Magellanic Cloud Outside the Milky Way with plans to return within one year before Earth becomes to hazardous for humanity to survive any longer. Their destination is the planet Iscandar, where a woman named Starsha claims she will give them a system capable of cleaning the Earth of radiation before all is lost.

The United Nations Cosmo Navy whose space fleets have been decimated by Gamilas forces resurrects the long sunken battleship Yamato and applies the blueprints to build a wave motion engine to transform it into the vessel known as Space Battleship Yamato.

This show is in fact a revised/remade version of an older show called Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers to American audiences)from the 1980’s.
