If anybody's feeling lonely in or near Hampshire, may I suggest coming along to Basingstoke Anime Society? (full disclosure: i'm in charge of it) There are quite a few anime societies scattered across the country, though they can be quite hard to find. They're a great way of feeling less lonely.

There used to be a North West anime club based in Manchester that met up monthly, but Im not sure what happened to it. They used to meet at a club which I think shut down but Ive not had any further emails about meetings, so they may have just stopped doing it altogether..... Maybe someone needs to set a new version up! :)

They should. I only just learnt a store for anime & gaming merch opened in Newcastle. Its online also (animez.co.uk) so Id hope this means that there are more than 3 otaku in the region XD

Yeah, some anime societies are quite short lived. Especially university-based ones where the leadership changes every year. The good news is it's not hard to set one up. It basically happened to us by accident - we were wondering how hard it would be, casually asked at a few pubs, and soon found we had a first night and a bunch of leaflets printed and a roomful of curious punters. We've been going for 5 years now and show no sign of stopping. I won't bore you with details here, but anybody interested in starting one give me a prod and I can help. If there's an anime & manga shop near you, maybe you should suggest to them that they act as a focus for the local fandom? If they're smart, they'll know that it's in their interest to encourage more enthusiasm and have their name attached to it. Sponsorship isn't a dirty word if it gets you off the ground.

ive been to collectormania conventions in milton keynes, they have anime stuff but it's mostly film and memorobilia orientated. Still, was good fun when I was a proper geek :) Would come home with bags full of transformers and zoids!

Ive wanted to go to Kitacon before but its just too expensive to go on my own, since no-one else I know will go with me to bring costs down... and it looks fully booked for this year anyway! *Sighs.....* one day.....
