(I know it's 8+ months away... buuuut...) I've NEVER been to an anime convention... I wanna go... But I know no one who'd go with me... What should I expect?

Expect to be surrounded by massive crowds. Expect to stand in lines. Expect noise. And expect to be wowed, and to spend most of the time with your jaw hanging open in amazement. ^_^ Because if you've never been to a major anime convention before, words can't really do it justice, and pictures still don't come close. It's an amazing experience; don't miss it. I haven't been to ACen in more than 11 years, so I couldn't really tell you anything specific about it that you couldn't find on its web site. Perhaps someone local to it can chime in.

Oh god, I went to ACEN in 2012 and had a blast! It's a great convention, you'll have lots of fun no matter who you're with. The benefit to going by yourself is you'll be able to do whatever you, personally, want to do without having to go along with someone else's schedule. But a lot of times, conventions are more fun with friends (^_^) Since it is so far away, you can probably find someone to go with in time~!

I agree with what has already been said, and I'd also add that if you want to go to any events/panels/etc. it's a good idea to plan it out before you go. It's easy to be overwhelmed when your first con is one as large as ACen (and that's exactly what happened to me in 2011, though it was still fun XD).
