I'm sure 99% of people here know what a Lolita complex is, but I'm curious, how many of you out there have actually read the book Lolita by Nabokov? And if so, what made you decide to pick it up?
Personally, after hearing the term for so long in anime and manga, and having a vague idea of the original book's plot, I was finally driven to pick up a copy and give it a read a few years back. I even enjoyed the book, which I'll admit was a bit of a surprise. I'll resist the temptation to give a mini-review here.

Well, to be honest, I really love the lolita fashion (even if I don't wear it myself) so eventually I did hear of the novel Lolita. I've actually been meaning to read it for a long time (>.<) I've seen multiple movie versions of it so I already know the story, but I would still love to check out the book sometime.

I wear the lolita fashion but I don't have a lolita complex. I haven't read the book but I know what is on the surface of the contents of the book.

I read the book because 1)I developed an interest in the fashion/culture and 2)We had to do a project on a book that had at one point been banned from school libraries. And yes, I too really liked the book. Nabokov other writings are pretty decent too. Also, @rinatanchu, you can't have the complex if you ARE the lolita. Lolita complex is someone who is EXCLUSIVELY sexually attracted to lolitas. Well, you technically can be a lolicon for other lolitas, but you get my drift.

Lolita as a fashion has nothing to do with the book besides the name. I wear lolita from time to time and I sure as hell don't feel like a little girl nor do I want old guys hitting on me. I'd say like 99% of other Lolitas feel the same.
I've been planning on reading the book just because I'm someone who tends to enjoys classic literature and I've heard its a good read if you can digest the darkness and perverseness of the story and morals.

wah ヽ(*´Д`*)ノ?? i'm surprised at all the people who think lolita fashion is related to the nabokov novel, it's completely unrelated. when speaking of lolita complex, that'd be related to lolicon... not lolita fashion.

yeah...the book is not related to the fashion! yikes!
the japanese even write it differently: ロリィタ (Roryita)instead of ロりタ (lolita)
