A lesson about harmful regulations

lagannfan
Well I am a potential candidate for office in my city in November and the campaign finance regulations are very restrictive. I see why super pacs have gotten so popular. If we deregulated campaigns more normal people could run and win I am fairly sure, it is like an incumbent protection program. I imagine in business you would face a similar issue with too much regulation. Your thoughts on regulation? Have you ever gotten the raw end of the regulations beating stick?

Alternatively, we could get money out of politics completely so that normal people stand a chance against rich candidates. Most PACS and super PACS are taking advantage of a loophole that allows organizations pushing issues, not people, to claim tax exempt status and hide the source of their money. As though a PAC pushing either side of an issue like abortion or gay marriage isn't clearly for a specific candidate in most elections... Your problem, that it seems like an incumbent protection program, isn't a fault of regulations, but of corrupt politicians writing regulations that have the primary purpose of helping themselves get reelected, not put themselves on level ground with other candidates.

See the problem with getting money out of politics is that then there is no money. Candidates would have to be well connected to win just like now. It just isn't feasible. Another alternative is public money but that disgust me because you then force people to pay for other people to run their campaign even if you have no interest. Deregulation of campaigns seems like a better idea. If a candidate won't reveal where their money comes from or how they spend it then do not donate and do not vote for them. I have not come across a single good regulation so far and that is hard to admit since I was a " get money out" guy.
