Stupid question

I been on okcupid right and this question gets on my nerves. Maybe not so much the question but the answers. "How long do you expect your next relationship to last?"

What's annoying is this. I answered "The rest of my life" Others answer a couple of months, years . What annoys me is this. The way I see it putting down a time limit is like going into something expecting it to fail. Why bother doing that in the first place? And nearly all the girl's had similar answers. Tips me off they are on a dating site looking for someone and already thinking is going to end even before they find them.

I think you're confusing expect with hope. I agree with you that the whole point of dating is to try to find someone to spend the rest of your life with, but that's what you hope for, not a realistic expectation. I would love for my next relationship to last for the rest of my life, but I can admit that I don't expect it to last for more than a few months.

I can respect your point of view on that perhaps the question is poorly worded. But your words aren't enough to convince me. To place a limiting cap could suggest half heartedness and commitment issues. Entering into anything with that mind set is sure to fail. Basically don't enter into a relationship, stay as friends or simply dating until you have that hope.
