Over abundance? We are legit the 1% of the US population. We dont need to pull more of our forces to help with that. Idk about army or marines but the air force is sure as hell undermanned across the entire branch of service. I can only assume army is under manned as well cuz president trump has been pushing recruiters to meet an impossible qouta. We are now starting to allow non-US citizens join in exchange for citizenship.

@azeulia let me get this straight. You are telling me that we should put up a wall to help solve our immigration problems because it will lead to Republicans doing better in the primaries? Moreover, you are saying that investing in things such as education and infrastructure will do nothing to help improve them? This is such an insane position to me that I can't believe that someone would unironically take this position. I dont think that I have ever met a person who was this uninformed this many levels. Maybe try and do some research on these topics? It would take me such a long time to try and inform you on these things myself that I dont really have the time to do so. Until you are informed enough to form a reasonable position, PLEASE don't vote. People like you are the reason why I have lost an appreciation for democracy at this point. Why wouldnt you instead look at the outcomes of a particular action? It just seems like such a better idea to work with one of our largest trading partners and work with someone whose economy we are somewhat dependent on, why wouldnt we do this instead of putting up a wall and say "fuck them" and pray that a revolution happens relatively quickly and then pray that things get resolved quickly and then pray that someone more radical or more corrupt doesnt step in and then pray that this doesnt dramatically impact things like the automobile industry in the US. It just seems like a much better option to help them rather than building a wall just to get more people to POTENTIALLY vote republican (though I would definitely argue that less people would vote republican because they would see how fucking stupid republicans are as a result of this). Also, helping Mexico would indirectly help us both economically speaking and in terms of immigration. I'm not saying that we should go over and Middle East them, but for example, I'm pretty sure that mexico doesnt like the cartels there, we could work with them to resolve that issue. I'm sure there are many ways that we can work with the government to resolve the situation.

@Mio I’m not saying we should build a wall smh, and don’t say “people like you” cause I am not who your describing I’m telling you what the wall will do as an outcome if it were to happen regardless of whether the idea is bad or not. I’m not even telling you it will solve the immigration problem at all. Don’t just tell, me I’m stupid and I should do research just for the sake of saying it because you think it’s “crazy”, also democracy is a sham mob mentality there was nothing at this point to appreciate because Party polarization. IS THIS STRAIGHT ENOUGH OR ARE YOU JUST GONNA POKE JABS AT ME CAUSE OF YOUR APPARENT INTELLECT AND WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE!? THEREFOR I SHOULDNT VOTE!? You don’t always need t go on the friggin fritz, like wtf dude. Your entire argument is because you think it’s stupid based on the perception of what you research of therefor it’s stupid. The infrastructure and education system yes needs to change but everytime I here change it always ends the higher teacher wages on oneside and on another side adding programs or undoing programs. You can’t just tell me I’m stupid don’t vote, tell me about helping places but and go “look at the particular outcomes of an action” like no dip you can say helping said XYZ would inadvertently help but it’s okay to entertain the idea but it’s not okay to everything presented on the table is stupid when it’s all that there is to work with till someone on either side presents something new for people to cling to, It would be nice if we could help Mexico but I’m pretty sure the Mexican President probably doesn’t not like trump since the whole debacle in 2016.

I’m not even producing a position on anything. Save for the fact I think the caravan is bad news

@Aleuzia and @Mio Okay, let's keep this civil guys. Both of you have made acceptable points and said things that I smh at, but let's try to keep level heads here; name calling and malicious assumptions are a few of the main things plaguing political discourse in America atm. One of the beautiful things about America is that we're allowed to disagree with each other and even our government. Now, the main topic of this thread is the caravan, right? @Mio, you haven't said anything about the caravan itself, only broad statements about immigration and foreign policy making; what do you think we should do about the caravan? Why?
mioismywaifu
@densetsu I tried to state my general views on immigration and tried to extend it to this case. I think we should either let them in but restrict welfare on these individuals, or if we choose not to restrict welfare on immigrants, we shouldnt let them in at all.

None in the caravan qualify as refugees, poverty isn't covered for refugee status. We aren't required to provide them asylum. "You have been persecuted for fear persecution related to related to one of five things: race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion" Do you see poverty or economic hardship in there? What about fear of gang violence? Because I don't.
densetsu_no_baka
I would think fear of persecution from a particular social group covers it >.> And in their defense, Mexico has many places that are no better than Honduras. The cartel have actually been making moves so bold as kidnapping federal politicians. The state of Mexico is pretty scary
