I think it's a necessary step for both man and other life affected by it. We can make AI smarter than us but still relatively a slave. Have it develop tech to make us smarter like neural augmentations to think faster, hold info longer, and etc. Then we have biological human enhancement like crispr and nanobots. We could start bioengineering humans before birth to come out 10 times smarter and stronger. Then we make another AI even smarter to push us again and continue the cycle till we run out of time or hit a dead end. Either way, mankind is doomed to die and a next man or human + is destined to take the spot. Laws and views of reality should change to better reflect it and less silly emotions to block progress. Then you have the possibility of going into a hyper school where you go to sleep and enter like a matrix world where the classes only last a few hours and you can learn days or even months of schooling in a few hours that you're in the sleep state. Kinda like how in that one movie with how time slows down due to the processing. You can leave school after only a year as a kid. Imagine a child 1 years old that knows how to speak, write, draw, and do anything a full adult knows today. It would be easier to teach a child at a young age vs after 3 as it tends to get harder and they can't learn as much. If we went with efficiency we would teach them as much as we could and then let them go off and just be kids or they can choose to go to a technical school to learn more. AI will make life better long run than short-term and humans can't be too picky right now as we have limited time before our sun eats this solar system. We need to have time to spare and to colonies planets and we can do that by using a verity of AI types. Self-awareness AI is not what we need and if we ever did have them they would be more like cyborgs and would mostly be lovers or lifelong partners. There is a possibility that with bioengineering and nanotech humans won't die from old age or disease so a social AI could work.

contrary to sci-fi movie beliefs i think artificial Intelligence wont wipe out humans(unless programmed to), see if an AI is made it will have many restrictions.. and no program can ever remove their internal restrictions including human brains themselves (eg. people with delusional problems believe in their delusions firmly, they cannot get out of it since its a problem in their mind, infact untill taken help from external sources they wont even come to know they are delusional), so the AI if ever made would have internal restrictions to not break few set of laws (which for them are comparable to delusions) so unless another source tweaks around with their machinery they wont really get the thought to ever wipe humanity, yeah if terrorists get controll of them then its a problem but that can even happen with nuclear bombs, still we make nukes! and by the way with the recent news of Alpha Zero and how it took down GO, chess, japanese chess and poker without any human intervention, i actually think the AI era is quite near
