The older man is Kyoyo Hibiki. Jaden's mentor who he viewed as an older brother. Kyoyo used an Elemental hero deck and was a world famous Duel Monsters champion, characterized by his trademark bright red trenchcoat who liked Jaden because of his thoughtful and energetic personality, and taught him to play Duel Monsters, hoping it would help him make friends. The two grew close, but one day, Kyoyo got sick... To this day Jaden uses Elemental Heros and refuses to wear anything but red.
