True anime fan or casual anime fan

Well, I don't know where I am in this. I just say lets talk about stuff we enjoy, no need to sit around and stab each other about who more of what. Just talk about what you like.

I think what makes you a fan is enjoying the series as what it is, and accepting the good with the bad. It's great if you have lots of merchandise, but if you can't afford or obtain it, then that's fine.

Hmm, i guess i think the term casual and Fanatic is really based on some peoples opinions. No matter the group, everyone can form their own opinion on something. As people have probably stated, in my view a Fanatic would probably be a person is out right 100% obsessed with such things to the point that they will freak out if they miss an episode. Such dedication does indeed help the companies and more..anyways. I think a "Casual" Term is still too loose. Cause Casual people can lead up to and cut off things at a whim. Atleast that's what i consider Casual. I'm Casual (in my mind) and yet i watch alot of anime series' and such. It just doesn't bother me if i miss an episode, or miss a manga. (Of course it's annoying when it's something your into, like they do a cliff hanger and you miss the episode after that) but in the end you can still get back to it. So that's probably what makes me Casual. I think the most i got in terms of things of anime is manga and dvds/blu ray stuff...i don't even have a figurine...but that's besides the point. Yah i'm definitely Casual (by my standards) and probably a High Moderate person by the Society standard? dunno =) haha Never really cared to think about it =D.

@Talamar Whoops :P but i guess it's just how i see it. I don't distinguish between people based on "titles" like that. To me there is just different levels of hobby doing. haha I don't see an Otaku as anything other then a person who really likes anime. And i don't see a Rocker as anything other then the same concept. (I don't call myself an Otaku either, i'm always sure there are people who know alot more then me when it comes down to it.) But i guess cause of my lack of pointing out people like that, i don't notice these things. I do know that Otaku is used for people who are so obsessed over something that it's "all they know" type thing. Anyways :P Yah clearly i'm just a hobbiest. haha

Otaku doesn't mean anime/manga/asian enthusiasts. It just got turned into that via culture shock. The word "Otaku" means obsession. You can be a car otaku a food otaku. But when adopted by mainstream culture it just became a generic term for a person into the anime/manga lifestyle. I can cleaerly say I am an Otaku. I spend most of my time and money on it so yea I prolly obsessed. But I am okay with that label. Too many folks see the word "Otaku" as negative. But funny thing is everyone is an otaku for something. Just my two cents.

Ahem. Brace yourselves. I kind of HAVE to do it this way, because for the most part, it's how I identify the most. I would be considered 'the fanatic' by the early definitions, so it's the side I'm gonna describe (and hopefully I can explain why we get a bit pissed off at newbies oftentimes). The analogy (and yes, I HAVE to...you'll understand at the end): Race. I'm black (in case you didn't know), right? Born and raised. When someone (who ISN'T black) comes up to me during black history month and starts spouting random facts and assures me that they 'have black friends', IT IS INFURIATING. Do not try to force my own culture onto me, ESPECIALLY if it's not yours. That being said, anime and it's culture isn't something you're born with, it's aquired. It's a choice. Now, while I grew up with anime, also, people still think that it's ok to approach me with the same 4 or 5 anime, expect me to partake, and THEN give ME crap for not having watched them. IT IS INFURIATING.

There's more to being black than MLK Jr. and Malcom X, there's more to music than Taylor Swift and Li'l Wayne, there's more to video games than Call of Duty and Gears of War, and there's more to anime than Naruto, Bleach, OnePiece, Deathnote, and Pokemon. Now, I don't care if you like those things/artists/activists. If anything, as I said before, it's a choice, and everyone has to start somewhere. I LOVE getting new people into anime. But don't try to 'out-elite' me because you've heard someone's opinion about something and decided that it was cool to repeat. I'm not in it for the T-Shirts. I'm not in it for the happy meals. I'm not in it for the social standings. I'm in it because I love it. Period. The 'fresh ones' that are on the high horse get to me...because their horse really ain't that high. Sounds a bit elitist, but it's how I feel.

i am a casual anime fan. but i dont think the term "true anime fan" is appropriate. it should be "anime fanatic". you can be a true fan without being a weeaboo. i love cons and cosplay i'm an art major so i love drawing but i dont run around shouting kawaii either.

I dunno. MissKitten. There seem to be parts that you arefanatical abou too. Just not the actual anime itself. Everyone has something they are way passion about. I have hea rd you talk about cosplay and how much you love it. Hehehe. And why not you are awesome st it.
