Anyone here embarrassed to be a US Citizen

US government etiquette isn't that bad. Ours has a reputation for exploding in brawls in session. Now that is embarrassing ~_~

i mean, i know our country is full of a bunch of pigs but im not embarrassed to be an american. my family came here in search of a better life and they found it. i just choose to be the exception to this and be a really polite and good person.

Yeah, nolongeractive, you're wrong. I have many options as a native English speaker in China or Japan. If I learn the language fluently I can get a job as an interpreter, or I can use my degree I am working towards to work in my field and have a leg up over colleagues who may only speak the native language. I may not advance as quickly, but that's fine with me. I don't need to be rich to be satisfied, nor the highest person in a company. Your experience was a shame, it really was, but you're talking out of your ass on other stuff.

Well xueli, 我想学习中文。 什么？ Because Chinese is an easier language for me to learn than Spanish or French. And infinitely more useful.

Can't read that. On a work computer :P But yeah, for a while chinese companies were hiring white guys to pretend they were a investor so as to portray an image to other foreign companies. But it's not just Chinese you'd have to be very fluent in. It's also english. Not just your everyday english/chinese but like legal jargon level

Ok, I have taken some technical writing courses so I'm aware of legal level writing. And I basically said, "I want to learn Chinese. Why? "

I know that's one of the issues a lot of the ABCs run into when they go back to the motherland so to speak. We can all speak common english/chinese fluently but there's lots of terms and slangs and colloquialism that pop up a lot. Like frog inside a well. Well straight translation should be well interior frog. Hahaha, man I wish these computers can write chinese. Silly windows

But yeah, finding a job as a translator should theoretically be easier for you because it looks more impressive to have a white guy speak english than to have an asian person do it. It's kinda like how asian americans have issues getting into the JET program. They also want you to look the part.*shrug*
