Fish tank help?

I'm wanting to get a betta fish next month. "Rescue one" from Petsmart. I got a 5 gallon glass old style fish bowl lol wondering if I need anything else? Lol I'll be looking to get any items needed as cheap as possible. Lol I like to go to yardsales and rummage sales when I can. I've had a Betta fish before, for about 3 years. He came with me everywhere! Lol I was like 11 at the time lol Came with me out to the lake too! I would make a pool in the beach and put him in it lol He died 2001 on new years by jumping out of his tank...i was out watching the fireworks... It was so sad when I got home... Rip Big Red I don't have an actual pic of him but he looked similar!

Well for one, I'd say get one with a lid (or find something to cover the top) this time so it doesn't accidentally kill itself while trying to pull a Finding Nemo lol

With beta fish you know the msotimprotant partis the water, open spaces and not to put them with other ebta fishes (bevause the territory) That's all I can help with ;_;
