I use a service known as Noppin. Basically it is a 3rd party buyer for Yahoo Japan. For some reason Yahoo is like the Japanese Ebay, but they generally do not ship outside of Japan. So Noppin will send the payments for you, Noppin receives the item and then ships it to you. Not just for anime merch, but also for video games, cooking ware, books and other random nonsense. Only thing that could be cheaper would be a personal contact in Japan.
