wreck your brainies trying to solve this...

ughh knew that was too eaasy...try this... A girl and her 2 best friends (A and B) gets shipwrecked near an unknown island...the best freind (A) saves her life but in the process gets swept by a current near the island and drowns....luckily she wakes up and finds herself passed out next to B on that inhabited island...she was injured so B went out and hunted some seagulls and boiled the meat for them to eat...the meat lasted for 3 days just enough for them to be rescued...after a few years the girl visits a restaurant arround a beach which actually had boiled seagull for a dish..the girl started tearing up while eating ...why was she crying?

A Japanese ship was leaving the port and on its way to open sea. The captain went to go oil some parts of the ship and took his ring off so it wouldn’t get damaged. He left it on the table next to his bunk. When he returned, it was missing. He had suspected three crew members could be guilty and asked them what they had been doing for the ten minutes that he had been gone. The cook said, “I was in the kitchen preparing tonight's dinner.” The engineer said, “I was working in the engine room making sure everything was running smoothly.” The seaman said, “I was on the mast correcting the flag because someone had attached it upside down by mistake.” The captain immediately knew who it was. How?

I was stuck between engineer and seaman because i know near nothing about ships... don't japanese ships have rectangle flags or smth, it couldn't have been upside down?

if it is a ship, then it doesn't have a mast, unless its a sailing ship/boat. and if it were one of those they usually don't have "engine rooms" as the engines are packed in tight places to save room. i'd say it was the seaman~ but the riddle gives little info on the situation
