Shoniya's Ask Me Anything!!!

balefire @balefire To be honest, neither should be praised, nobility it's partially responsible for the stagnation of humanity on the feudal age (religion still takes the 1st place)

@Shoniya is very well educated. It’s kinda hot xD. Anyway yeah they did the same thing with other weapons yet the Naginata was used more defensively rather offensively. Samerai were definitely ruthless during their era but which civilization wasn’t they all had their pros and cons. Vikings were another culture I enjoyed
balefire
A common myth, unfortunately. The greatest scientists and inventors throughout history (Galileo, Isaac Newton, Edward Jenner, Gregory Mendel, Johannes Gutenberg, etc.) were devout Christians. The idea of the Dark Ages is a historical fantasy. The Chivalric Code, as well, is actually based on what we would call today "civic mindedness", or one could go so far as to say "social justice" - protection for the poor and the vulnerable, social works such as libraries and hospitals, and even laying the groundwork for women's suffrage and involvement in civil affairs.

My degree is in history, that's why I gave the dissertation :)

balefire @balefire You do know that from all the people you mentioned the only one who actually lived on the dark ages was Johannes right? Being a Christian and a scientist has nothing to do with Religion hampering the progress of humanity scientifically... Have you forgotten that most alchemist would usually be hanged for witchcraft when in reality what most of them did was simple chemistry? Sure many of them would rip people of their cash, but their executions were based on witchcraft, not robbery and scams Burning the library of Alexandria alone set the humanity back nearly a millenia... When the temples were converted to Christian ones There's just too much proof of scientists being executed through eras to disregard religion as the main reason for backwardness
balefire
Well, Caesar burned the Library of Alexandria annex in a war, and a vast amount of the scrolls survived. Its influence waned because of other libraries coming to prominence. That's just basic history. I'm not sure where you get a tie to religion.
swadian
When the local temples were reformed into Christian ones centuries later, most of the scripts were lost "mysteriously" throughout the years. A few tens or hundreds it's understandable, half of it, not so much
venusaur
do you like pancakes (v important question)
the_noctor
okay.
balefire
Half? Holy mackerel! Archaeologists consider 5% to be an impossibility! The standard for surviving effects (manuscripts, arts, etc) to compile what is considered "complete" identity of a declined culture is about a quarter of a percent! All right, I can see this is a conflict of two very different strata. Let's stick with the pancake question.
