542 Dear Archer, please don't get so wrought up over a stupid book. I didn't start an argument, I merely stated my opinion, to which I am just as entitled as you. Target audience may matter insofar that children won't understand certain topics, but that doesn't mean it's okay to make media directed towards children dumb and dull. That's an argument you hear countless times when people talk about children's movies and books: "What does it matter, if the story makes no sense? Why should I care, if the production quality is total trash? The characters act completely unnatural and the dialogue is stilted? So what? It's for kids! Let them eat dirt!" I don't understand this attitude. Why would I subject children to media that is terrible, when there's tons of stuff that is actually good? Why would I feed them something that any adult would consider to be mind-numbingly stupid shit? Why should I give them something that was made by someone who clearly gave a rat's ass about quality and disregards his target audience to such an extent that he is fine with throwing utter garbage at them, because they won't notice anyway? Aren't we reading books to learn something? Aren't we reading them to enjoy the art of story telling, the beauty of language, the author's skill of making his thoughts and feelings come to life in your head? Why should I hand a child a book that is lacking in almost every one of these respects? I have learnt in elementary school that words like "said" and "then" should be avoided, because they make a story lifeless and boring. Lewis is using them to the point it gets annoying, so it negatively affects his writing. I found other issues with his style as well, but that is one problem I remember without having to torment myself with reading his books again. You ask me to give proper points, well, where are your points? Tell me, what are the many benefits of using "said" in writing?
