When People Shit on Anime Fans

To this day I’ll never fucking understand all the people who laugh and mock anytime they find someone who’s interested in Anime and Manga. So many of these fuckers are the same people who watch shitty ass reality TV shows, generic ass adult animation, or trope riddled movies with no real stakes. None of those people take the time to watch or read enough to really understand that there’s a lot more to it than they think as far as plot and animation or hand drawn art goes. I’m not one to dog on people for their tastes, but it seems like the same people who bitch about anime have only ever seen shojo/loli memes on the internet and haven’t ever taken the time to get invested in a decent plot through any medium in their entires lives.

Dat boi ain't wrong though. I stopped engaging in any activities with the anime community in my hometown because weebs ARE cringy af. Most are just awkward to talk to, no offense to them and I know full well I'm the same way if not worse. Some are a lot of fun but not strictly otakus, usually comic fans who enjoy a manga or anime from time to time. Then ya got THOSE ones... Dear god, you know the sort... The sort who would justify beating on their kid sister with some stupid anime style rant about "teaching her the necessity to train and gain power." No, I'm not kidding, I know a guy who straight up did that, justifying it in those same words. Why his mom didn't call the police, I DUNNO! This prick's 17, his sister is 11 and had a black eye and several bruises afterward. This isn't even the craziest story I could tell ya. I see weebs do some crap that's outright unacceptable because they lose the distinction between dumb japanese cartoons and real life. They're more common than I care to admit. I love these dumb japanese cartoons, but I've seen quite a few start treating it like a religion and frankly, considering how popular edgelord power fantasy anime gets, that could be a problem. (kidding about that last sentence) I read manga, and I watch anime, and while I enjoy it, I admit otakus can be pretty terrible. But that's not why people like you describe say that. Thing is, anime isn't deep. We, the otakus, desperately try to prove it is, but the nuance is usually next to nonexistent, even in a lot of beloved classics. That's not a bad thing! But tell a weeb that shonen battles are predictable, they lose their shit usually. It's understandable why many find anime stupid, and I'll be honest, I love it for being stupid. At the end of the day, does it really matter SO LONG AS YOU'RE NOT BEATING ON YOUR 11 YEAR OLD SISTER?!?! (sure wish they'd toss me more boxing fanservice with all the other fanservice going around. -pouty face-)
