Who here is able to pick up on signals?
I am such a direct person, that unless I am also interested in someone or feel the same about someone I just can't pick up signals from that person!
I feel like if people would just say it directly, a lot more relationships could be happening because you can start going out 'n stuff to get to know each other.

how do you do that with people you trust or with people you're friends with? i don't fully understand the verb "disassociating" maybe as we only have the verb "to distance" in dutch.

I am also a direct person. It seems part of your problem might be the laguage barrier.
