Job Hunting

Been looking for a job for about 4 years now? and no luck at all, keep finding jobs that are hiring, I've put in my resume/application and got a reply back saying "they're not hiring" >.> ok then

Some tips: - Cover letters are a great way of explaining why you think you are fit for the job, and how you might not have all the qualities but will learn on the job (there are companies that will only search for cover letters) - like John mentioned, do the temp work. Although it isn't much, it's something to show on the resume. I worked as a server a while back, and on my resume I explain how it improve my communication skills and adaptability to changing environment. A bit exaggerated but not 100% exaggerated. - Volunteer during spare time. Makes you look good and can increase your connections if you do well. - Tailor your resume. With the current job market, your resume should not be ambiguous, and try to be direct by including as much skills you can that was asked on the job description. Of course don't lie, just add what you can do. - Sar staments. SAR stands for situation, action, result. There are explanations online how to use this for resume writing. Some places use other abbreviations like STAR or PAR, in the end same thing. HR loves this because it can demonstrate how you resolve conflict.

I honestly get most of my employment through temp agencies. Yeah, they jack chunks of your paychecks, but for me, landing an interview is the worst part. Most of the places I work at usually want to keep me after I show what kinda worker I am. And its a good way to build onto your work experience if you, like me, chose to spend all your skill points in writing, world design, interactive media, history and anthropology, only to find that the real world doesn't like creative people who aren't geared with real trade skills.
