^there also you can see mexico is on 30th position, US is on 47th position and by comparison india is on 61st position :P
that is quite a difference in ranks.. where i live and around here i dont see much crime, its really minimal... no problem with drugs/gangsters since both weapons and drugs aren't available. Pickpockets and other crimes are also rare.. you might see criminal news about india in your country or other places coz those news are specifically cherry picked for entertainment value! i mean think about it.. they have no reason to show news where a crime was stopped or something(which is most of the cases). There have been rape cases but their number/ratio is far less from US.
The real problem here is 1. corruption, 2. infectious diseases, 3. poverty and 4. infrastructure.. crime has never been a problem for almost 50 years now :P
on the other hand i have heard a lot of bad things about mexico, even my medical student association warned me to not take on exchange program over there and lastly when i took feedback from my indian friends who have gone to US, mexico and czechk the most dangerous among them was mexico :P
and both the statistics(which i posted and yours) support my statements, moreover u will find references to the statistics research on the wikipedia page if you want to know where they came from ^^
